Professional Boundaries provide the framework for healthy relationships between providers and patients. When providing patient centered care, there may be times that the professional boundary lines become blurred. Frontline healthcare staff must maintain healthy professional boundaries to not only protect the patient, but to protect themselves from “burn-out” caused by stress.
This course is part two of a two-part series that explores personal and professional boundaries, while also discussing the importance of boundaries for both the worker and the patient.
Working with patients that are dealing with difficult situations can be very stressful and exhausting work. Professional boundaries help to manage the workers well-being and emotions. A vital skill for maintaining a healthy professional boundary and a healthy work-life balance is the ability to be proactive and assertive. In this course, participants will identify the benefits of stress management as a staff member providing care coordination and the strategies associated with wellness and stress reduction. This course provides an examination of the relationships between personal boundaries, burnout and the 4 A’s of stress management. Since all stressors in the workplace cannot be avoided, the course emphasizes that certain stressful situations need to be addressed in order to create a healthy working environment.
